With a Masters in Counseling and Expressive Arts therapy, Christy uses the arts including music, guided imagery, visual arts, writing/poetry and play to facilitate the healing process. She works with both children and adults during individual sessions to teach coping skills and to break through resistance that prohibits living our fullest potential. For children who haven’t learned the vocabulary to express their feelings, the arts provide a natural outlet and tool to understand themselves and their environment. This may include identifying ways to maintain focus and attention, and/or expressing and managing powerful emotions. As adults, we often disconnect our "selves" from our emotions. This work involves identifying destructive thought patterns which may cause symptoms of anxiety and depression. In this self- exploration new patterns and recordings are established.
The Arts invite a cathartic release, an integration of self. They empower us to discover our unique voice and speak our own story. In that unveiling, we see ourselves more fully and wholly; filled with deep joy, abundant love and radiant grace. The arts are a medium to facilitate the healing process and create effortless transformation. This is my wish for you!
Educational and Professional Background:
Christy graduated from Lesley University in Cambridge Massachusetts with a Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. She holds additional certifications in EMDR, a trauma technique, and as a Music Together Teacher. Christy has extensive experience working with all ages in a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatry, substance abuse and addictions, and the Baltimore City Head start Program.
